Warad-Sin

Warad-Sin
(reigned ca. 1834-1823 b.c.)
A king of the Amorite dynasty of the southern Mesopotamian city of Larsa, which flourished in the two centuries following the fall of the Third Dynasty of Ur (ca. 2004-1741 b.c.). Warad-Sin came to power after his father, Kudur-Mabuk, a powerful local tribal leader, slew the reigning king, Silli-Adad, in battle and placed his own son on the throne. As king, Warad-Sin tried to maintain popular support by renovating local temples and improving the fortifications of the towns controlled by Larsa. He was succeeded on the throne by his brother, Rim-Sin I (ca. 1822-1763 b.c.), who had the longest reign of any ancient Mesopotamian ruler.
